I am dealer and need an Engineer to attend the vessel for a repair, how do I arrange this?

Contact support@intelliantech.com providing them with the serial number of the antenna so they can generate a case for you. Provide them with Log files to analyse and advise if it can be something that can be fixed remotely. If there is a hardware error, the support desk personnel will advise and can hand over to the coordination team to have an engineer attend the vessel for you.

No picture is showing on the TV set. What should I do?

No picture is showing on TV set There are a number of common issues that could cause you to have no picture on the TV set.

Improper LNB Skew angle: A proper LNB skew angle is needed when antenna targets a linear polarization satellite. The optimal skew angle can be found by rotating LNB at tracking mode by checking signal levels at Antenna Control Unit (ACU) or PC program. The satellite receiver has the ability to switch satellites automatically using a DiSEqC signal. Ensure the satellite configuration on your IRD must match the satellite setting on the Intellian system.
Out of satellite coverage zone: Intellian system will provide excellent reception within the antenna coverage area for your satellite television service. However, signal quality may degrade as you approach the edges of coverage zone.
Incorrect or loose RD connections: As part of the regular maintenance Intellian recommends all connections should be checked to ensure that they have not become loose. A loose RF connector can reduce signal quality. For Intellian® i3 and i4 , you need always connect your RF1 cable to your Antenna Control Unit (ACU). Please refer to the "Connecting the Antenna RF Signal Cable to the IRD" section of your owner’s manual for more information.
Type of multiswitch used: An active multiswitch must always be used to connect the Intellian system to multiple IRDs. Refer to your owner’s manual for directions on proper multiswitch /multiple IRD cabling.
IRD wiring: Refer to the "Connecting the Antenna RF Cable to the IRD" section in your Intellian owner’s manual and your IRD user manual to confirm that the IRD is properly connected to the antenna unit and the television.
IRD faulty: In the case of a faulty IRD, refer to your IRD user manual for service, replacement, and warranty information.

Intermittent TV picture for short intervals. What should I do?

There are a number of common issues that may cause you to have an intermittent picture for short intervals.

The Intellian system will not find or lock on to the satellite. What should I do?

There are a number of possibilities that could explain why the system will not find the satellite. Satellite signal blocked: Satellite signals can be blocked or degraded by buildings, other vessels or equipment on vessel itself. Check if the antenna has a clear view of the sky. Refer to your owner’s manual, to make certain that the Intellian unit is in the optimal location.

Outside of satellite coverage zone: Intellian systems provide excellent reception within the antenna coverage area for your satellite television service. However, the strength of satellite signal may be degraded as you approach the edges of coverage zone. Radar interference: Intellian recommends that you do not mount the antenna on the same level as the radar. Radio waves emitted from radar might interfere with Intellian.

Incorrect or loose RF connections: As part of the regular maintenance Intellian recommends all connections should be checked to ensure that they have not become loose. A loose RF connector can reduce signal quality. For Intellian i-Series, you need always connect your RF1 cable to your Antenna Control Unit (ACU). Please refer to the "Connecting the Antenna RF Signal Cable to the IRD" section of your owner’s manual for more information.

Radome off: Intellian recommends that you should keep the radome on during the satellite search or tracking mode. Direct sunlight or other weather factors may interfere with the sub-reflector’s optical sensors and it might cause the antenna tracking function to fail.

Incorrect satellite information: Incorrect satellite information (i.e. transponder frequency, symbol rate, NID or decode method) will result the antenna tracking function failed. Satellite information may be changed from time to time due to the satellite TV program or program provider change. You can contact Intellian authorized dealers directly to have the latest satellite information.

Multiswitch interference: An active multiswitch must always be used to connect the Intellian system to multiple satellite receivers (IRD). Insufficient voltage: Intellian recommends that the RF cable between antenna and Antenna Control Unit (ACU) should not be longer than 30-meter. Over 30-meter will result in the voltage drop and it might cause significant loss of signal gain. Please consult Intellian authorized dealers for technical support. In order to have your antenna operate normally, the output voltage from ACU to antenna should be at least 24V for Intellian i6 and 27V for Intellian i3 and i4.

Improper LNB Skew angle: A proper LNB skew angle is needed when an antenna locks on a linear polarization satellite. The optimal skew angle can be found by rotating the LNB while in tracking mode by checking signal levels in the Antenna Control Unit (ACU) or PC program. LNB failure: If you have an defective LNB, it might need to be replaced. Contact your local dealer, national distribution or Intellian product support for further assistance.

Is HD available on all Intellian series?

Intellian Satellite TV Antenna Systems are capable of supporting High Definition programming when available on Ku-band. Most of the Sat TV companies transmit HD programing on Ku-band so the Intellian i-Series can support this when using a HD TV with an HD subscription. DIRECTV however transmit HD signal on Ka-band and so to receive HD DIRECTV the s-Series must be used.

I'm getting a "channel not available" message on my TV

There are a number of common issues that can cause you to get a “channel not available” message on your TV when using a satellite receiver.
Antenna tracking wrong satellite: If you select a channel on the receiver, but the wrong programming or no programming appears on the TV, that channel might be carried on a different satellite from the one the antenna is currently tracking. Try switching to another satellite.
Receiver not activated for DIRECTV HDTV service: If you are unable to receive high-definition channels on your HD receiver, your receiver may not be activated for HDTV service. High-definition channels are not included with the basic DIRECTV package; you need to request that these special channels be added to your programming package. Premium HD channels, such as HBO HD, must be ordered separately.
Program guide not fully loaded at startup: Whenever you reboot the receiver (turn the power off or disconnect the power), the receiver needs to download the complete Program Guide from the 101° satellite. Therefore, be sure the antenna is tracking the 101° satellite whenever you reboot the receiver. Please be patient during this process it may take around 20 minutes for the receiver to load the entire Program Guide, which lists channels available on every DIRECTV® satellite. You cannot select a channel until it has been loaded in the Program Guide.

I have a t-Series antenna, I will be sailing from America to Europe, will I need to make any changes to the system?

The t-Series antennas are Worldview capable, and have the Intellian WorldView LNB installed. This LNB operates in all regions for reception of Satellite TV signals. No changes will be required to be made on the hardware but you will need to reload the region file on the ACU for when you are in coverage of the European satellite. Once it has been reloaded, you can set the sat pair option to display the correct satellite. Steps can be found in the manual. The antenna is not switching channels or satellites when using Dish or Bell TV with a MIM?

There are a number of common issues that could cause your antenna not to switch channels or satellites while operating with a MIM.
Incorrect satellite configurations: The satellite receiver has the ability to switch satellites automatically using a DiSEqC signal. Please ensure the satellite configuration on your IRD matches with the satellite setting on the Intellian system. Also ensure the MIM has power and the correct receiver is set as the Master receiver. This is displayed on the ACU and also on the MIM with indicator LEDs.
Incorrect or loose RD connections: As a part of the regular maintenance, Intellian recommends all connections should be checked out to ensure that all connections are tightly secured. A loose RF connection might drop signal quality significantly. For Intellian i-series, ensure to connect RF1 cable to your Antenna Control Unit (ACU). Please refer to the "Connecting the Antenna RF Signal Cable to the IRD" section of your owner’s manual for more information

Can the Intellian Satellite TV Antenna be used in both Asian and Europe?

The Intellian i-Series antenna models for Americas, Asia and Europe may appear to be identical but there are distinct differences in hardware inside the antenna; the LNB used to convert the satellite signal, located in the antenna of the satellite system is specific to the geographic location. It is not possible to receive Asia satellite signals using the European version and vice versa.
Intellian offers a solution for this with our Worldview products, these can work globally and electronically switch between regions. Worldview systems are available on all t-Series, the s80HD and s100HD along with the i6W and i9W.

I have an issue with my VSAT antenna, it is not tracking and always in search mode. What should I do?

If your VSAT antenna remains in Search mode on the display, please start by checking the following. Has the antenna worked or is this in the setup phase? Is the correct satellite set as the target satellite?
This is often set automatically from the modem using Open AMIP. Check that the modem is on and connected. It is also good to check that the signal is not blocked externally by a port crane or other obstruction. Also check that the GPS position is displaying the correct position for your area. If the system remains in search mode then contact your local dealer or Intellian Technical Support support@intelliantech.com .

What Sat TV systems will support 4K or UHD programming?

This is dependent on the Sat TV service provider. In the US, DIRECTV is broadcasting some content in 4K or UHD and the Intellian s-Series works well with this content provided you have a 4K/UHD receiver, TV and are subscribed to 4K content.

Intellian s-Series can receive all DirecTV HD and SD channels.

Can I use a DVR on my Sat TV system?

It is possible to use a DVR (digital video recorder) on some of our Satellite TV systems. DVR receivers have two or more tuners that require individual RF feeds. This would require a multi-switch to accomplish this. It is also a requirement that the system does not switch satellites while recording, which happens occasionally with Dish Network or Bell TV broadcasts. Please check with your local dealer or supplier for more local information on which DVRs may work.

How do I determine which size TVRO antenna I will need?

The most important selection criteria when choosing a satellite TV antenna is where you are going with the boat as the further offshore you travel the weaker the signal is and therefore you will need a larger antenna. Please consult the Satellite TV Coverage maps for your region and TV provider to determine the correct antenna for you.

If I travel into another region that uses a different TVRO Provider, what do I have to do to change programming?

This depends on the region that you are in. In Europe, you will need to get a new receiver for the area that you are in and select the new provider using the Load Region function in the setup menu. If crossing from one region to another you may need to change the LNB, or if you are using a WorldView antenna just select a new region in the Antenna Control Unit.

Certain regions of the world use different signal frequencies and polarization, so it is important if you plan to go to another region that you consider a WorldView antenna, as this will cover you wherever you go.

What size BUC requires the addition of an air conditioning system when using a 1.5 or 2.4 meter VSAT System?

While it is somewhat dependent on the average ambient temperature Intellian recommends air conditioning antennas that use 100W BUCs or higher. If the system will be operating in a colder climate then it may be possible to operate without.

Do Intellian Satellite TV systems operate on Ku-band or Ka-band?

Most of the Intellian Satellite TV systems are designed for receiving in Ku-band. The s-Series range, s6HD, s80HD, and s100HD enable simultaneous reception from all three DirecTV satellites; combining Ku- and Ka-band signals. These systems are specifically designed for DIRECTV in the US. In all other regions of the world Satellite TV is broadcast on Ku-band.

What are the DC power requirements for an i-Series antenna, ACU and MIM?

The i-Series Systems require 9-30 volts DC, with a maximum power requirement of 50W, typical 30W. The antenna receives its power via the RF1 cable between the ACU and antenna. The Intellian MIM is supplied with its own AC/DC adaptor that requires a 110 volt AC outlet, alternatively it can also be connected to the DC Power Out connection on the back of the i-Series ACU using the provided power cable. The MIM is only required on installations that are to receive Dish TV in the US or Bell TV in Canada.

The NX series does not require the removal of shipping brackets as they are not required on the NX series of products. The antenna is protected by Dynamic Braking on all three axis. The dome does not need to be removed during the installation procedure. The RF cable also connects on the outside of the dome to ensure quick and efficient installation.

The customer has an aging legacy Intellian v100GX onboard the vessel and we plan to replace it with a v100NX. Does the ship crew need to fabricate new mounting holes for the NX series?

The bolt pattern for mounting are the same, so the new antenna will be able to use the current mounting plate. Both legacy v100 and new v100NX and most Sub 1.5M series share the identical dimensions of 247.5mm bolt to bolt.

How do I connect Intellian Sat TV system to multiple IRDs (receivers)?

You can hook up multiple receivers to an Intellian system so that you can enjoy different channels on each TV monitor. All Intellian antennas are capable of supporting multiple receivers and TVs. To do this a multiswitch may be required with legacy type receivers or a SWM Splitter if using DIRECTV. If using Dish or Bell TV with a MIM, up to 4 receivers can be supported, additional receivers can be added with an extra MIM.

Use the Setup mode again and reload the region file and perform sat pair selection. If you continue having the same issue, contact support@intelliantech.com so they can double check the frequencies to make sure that they are correct. Sometimes frequencies change on the satellite and it will need adjusting.

I'm getting a "Searching for Satellite Signal" message on the TV, what should I do?

Wiring problem: If the HDTV components are not wired correctly, the system will not work. Refer to your Owner’s Manual, verify that your system is wired properly.
Antenna powered off: The Intellian antenna must be turned on for the system to work. If the system is entirely non-functional, check the power switch or the circuit breaker to ensure that the antenna is turned on.
Antenna tracks wrong satellite: If you select a channel on the receiver, but the wrong programming or no programming appears on the TV, that channel might be carried on a different satellite from the one the antenna is currently tracking. Try switching to another satellite.
Satellite signal blocked: Satellite signals can be blocked or degraded by buildings, other vessels or equipment on vessel itself. Check to see if the antenna has a clear view of the sky. Refer to your owner’s manual, to make certain that the Intellian unit is in the optimal location.
Outside of satellite coverage zone: Intellian systems provide excellent reception within the antenna coverage area for your satellite television service. However, signal quality may degrade as you approach the edges of coverage zone.
Weak satellite signal: Just like radio stations, some satellite TV channels are transmitted at a stronger signal level than others. If you're unable to receive a clear signal on one channel, try switching to a stronger channel. Weaker channels are more vulnerable to interference, such as rain or snow.

A quality RG6 Coax cable is highly recommended between the Intellian ACU and the antenna to get the best performance and reliability of your system. Ensuring the quality and reliability of old cables is always difficult. To ensure reliable performance Intellian recommends that you utilize the cables provided with the system or purchase similar type cables if required.
If existing cables are used, then ensure that the F-Type connectors are free from corrosions and the cables are in good condition, especially where exposed to the weather.

Can you tell me which satellite to use in a certain region for Sat TV coverage?

Generally speaking each country has their own providers of Satellite TV subscription services. Intellian antennas are designed to be able to operate in any region, and through the built in satellite library, all the local regional providers are pre-programmed based on the country. Once you have decided on which Sat TV provider to subscribe with, then setting up the antenna system is very straightforward using the Load Region menu option. This is fully explained in the product manuals and quick start guides that come with the products.

Is HD TV available on all Intellian Sat TV systems?

To receive HD, a suitable HD receiver and subscription has to be used to get HD channels. The Intellian i-Series will display HD programming when available on Ku-band Satellite signals.
In the US, Dish Network sends HD programing on Ku-band and the i-Series will display HD, a MIM is required for operation with Dish. DIRECTV operate on a dual band system and to receive HD, Intellian dual band antennas, the s6HD or s80HD/s100HD WorldView must be used.
The i-Series will work with DIRECTV, but will only receives SD channels. Bell TV in Canada delivers HD programing on Ku-band, therefore the i-Series will display HD channels. For optimum viewing, an Intellian MIM should be used to automate satellite channel switching.
In European locations, most satellite TV providers transmit HD channels on Ku-band and so the Intellian i-Series should receive HD channels if they are provided as part of the subscription package. Please check with your local dealer.

Can I connect multiple TV screens to one Satellite TV antenna system?

One Intellian Sat TV system can be connected to multiple TV screens. Each TV will need to have its own Satellite receiver (set top box) and be connected to the antenna system using either a multi-switch or Intellian MIM.
This will allow viewers to watch separate channels on each TV screen. Note: if you only have one receiver, all of the TV screens will show the same programming.

Why do I lose some channels while I can still watch other channels?

An individual satellite has many different transponders, all broadcasting different programs. These transponders typically have different power levels. Signals from the weaker transponders will frequently be lost before the signals from the stronger ones, especially at the fringes of the coverage footprint. This also applies to local channels that are based on your billing Zip code. Once you sail out of your local region you will lose the locals channels, like the news and weather, but you will still be able to receive the national channels.

What is the best storage environment for VSAT and large TVRO crates prior to installation?

The VSAT systems and larger TVRO systems are supplied in simple to open wooden crates, with quick to remove spring clips. These crates also have ventilation panels to allow air to flow into the crates to help stop mold. It is best to store these complete systems in a dry covered area, the location temperature should not exceed 20°C with a humidity of less than 60%. Do not cover the ventilation panels as that can stop airflow and cause moisture build up inside the crate.

There are a number of common issues that can cause some channels on the 110° satellite to not be viewable, while others remain okay.

Outside of satellite coverage zone: Since the 110° satellite transmits TV signals at a lower power than the 129° and 119° satellites, the coverage area of the 110° satellite differs slightly from the coverage area of the 129° and 119° satellites. Both the Intellian i6 and i6P are powered by Intellian’s proprietary Wide Range Search (WRS) algorithms, Dynamic Beam Tilting (DBT) technology and automatic skew adjusting system. The Intellian i6P has an Auto-skew function that is recommended for vessels using linear satellite TV signals, such as used in Europe, South America and Asia, which allows the Intellian i6P to outperform any similarly sized antenna on the market when traveling greater distances. For North America, the satellite TV signals are Circular and the "P" versions are not required.

What are the ac/dc power requirements for an i-Series antenna, ACU or MIM?

The ACU requires 9-30 volts DC. The antenna receives its power via the RF1 cable between the ACU and antenna. The MIM requires a 12 DC input and is supplied with a cable to connect direct to the ACU to be powered, it is also supplied with its own AC/DC adaptor.

Can I receive HD channels with i-Series antennas?

The i-Series systems are Ku-band stabilized antenna systems that are able to track and receive DIRECTV SD channels, Dish TV Network, Bell TV (Canadian), DIRECTV Latin America, and Sky Mexico’s SD and HD channels.
In other regions, such as in Europe, that transmit HD programing on Ku-band, the i-Series can receive these, as long as they are included in the users subscription package from the Sat TV provider and the system is within the satellite signal footprint. For DIRECTV HD programing the s-Series of products should be used to be able to view channels in HD and 4K.

How long does an antenna installation take on average??

This depends on a number of factors onboard the vessel more than the equipment being installed. For a smaller satellite TV system it can be installed in about one full day depending on the complexity of the antenna mount and cable run. For a satellite communication systems this again depends on the mounting of the antenna and the cable runs. This could take two to three days, however once the cables are installed and the system mounted the Aptus NX software Installation Wizard guides the installer through an installation and this can be completed very quickly.

If my antenna is damaged by lightning, what should I do?

If your antenna system is struck by lightning it most likely will be damaged beyond repair. This can also occur if lightning strikes somewhere on the vessel and not the antenna directly. The sensitive electronics in all systems onboard is often completely beyond repair and we recommend that it be replaced. The charge can also be so great that it can destroy the RF cables, and it would be recommended to also replace those as well. Please consult with your local Intellian dealer.

If my radome is damaged, can I keep using it without repair? Does Intellian offer repair service for damaged radomes?

Intellian radomes are built using very special composite materials to allow the satellite signals to pass through and so cannot generally be repaired. Intellian does offer replacement domes, or complete replacement radomes. We recommend that any damaged domes are replaced quickly so as to not let water get inside the antenna.

If water leaked into my antenna, what is immediate action that I need to take?

It is never good to mix water and sensitive electronics, however Intellian radomes are designed with drain holes to allow small amounts of water out, combined with internal protection of the components. You should temporarily patch any holes in the dome and when possible have a local service dealer service and replace the damaged radome, making sure any remaining moisture is removed.

Why is the TV not showing a program when the satellite antenna is tracking a satellite with a strong signal level?

Please check the NID lock in the ACU indicated by a solid "DOT" on the display. If NID is not locked, you may have started to track the wrong satellite. In this scenario, wait until the TVRO goes to search mode and acquires the correct satellite. If you have a lock it could also be the channel you are looking at may not be available, try changing the channel.

If I want to stream video, how big of an antenna should I buy?

Steaming services require a certain bandwidth to provide the capacity to stream content. This depends on the service and also the number of users onboard wanting to stream. Lower resolutions can be streamed with a 1mbs service, but this is dependent on the airtime provider.
All Intellian VSAT antennas can provide the bandwidth to stream, however using a larger antenna generally reduces the cost of the airtime. We recommend you contact your local airtime provider to discuss your bandwidth requirements, but you can be assured that all Intellian VSAT antennas can stream content.

Introduction

This technical bulletin is to inform the Intellian partners and end users of the Russian Satellite Selection guide on FB terminals to meet the recent Russian Regulatory Requirements.

Description
All FB terminals that are operating within the borders of the Russian Federation will be required to land their traffic via the Russian national satellite access station (SAS), which is hosted on Inmarsat’s MEAS region satellite. As a consequence, FB terminals operating in Russia will need to connect only to the MEAS satellite and not to the EMEA or APAC satellites, which overlap the Russian Federation footprint.
For FB maritime terminals, this new regulation applies for all ships operating within 12 nautical miles from Russian coastlines or while in Russian territorial waters.
All Intellian FB terminal firmware has been upgraded to enable the auto-satellite selection by geographic location in the FB terminals.
With the latest firmware upgrade, the FB terminals operating within 12 nautical miles from the Russian coastlines will automatically switch to Inmarsat MEAS satellite.

Guide for End Users
1. To meet the Russian Regulatory Requirements, it is mandatory to upgrade the firmware to the latest version and the firmware version for each FB terminal is available via the link below.
2. End Users should ensure that, using the web console, the FB terminal shows the FB system is pointing to the MEAS satellite when in Russia.

1. Overview

It has been reported that there are a few cases on v240MT Gen-I system related Skew Error. The purpose of this document is to inform field engineers to check a couple of things when encountered skew error on v240MT Gen-I system.
- Check the cable interference when rotating Tri-Band module with your hand.
- Be sure that the Geneva gear module (Ku) rotates without interference on TEST mode
- Check if the version of POL(Pol2) firmware is 1.18 or later, which is v1.22 FW package. 

2. Checkpoints to resolve skew error
     2.1 Check cable routing on Tri-Band module
Overview
It has been reported a few cable damages on the v240MT Gen-I system related to Tri-Band module as below. Below pictures indicate the cable damages near the Tri-band module. As you can see, cables may get stuck in belt guides or get caught in other structures as below.
 
 
How to check 
1. Turn off the BUC / antenna power to check the cable condition.
2. By rotating the tri band module, make sure that the related cables are routed correctly without interruption.
 
      2.2 Check cable routing on Geneva Gear
Overview
Intellian has been encountered skew error due to Ku RF cable stuck as shown in the right. Engineers have to check if this structure rotates without the cable interference as well. 

How to check 
 1. Turn off the BUC / antenna power and change to TEST mode.
 2. Turn on the Antenna power and pull down the reflector to check the gear movement when it start initialization. (No power is applied to the motors on three axis in TEST mode.) 
 3. Check if this structure rotates without the cable interference while initialization.

2.3 Check cable routing on Geneva Gear
It can have the skew error even though no cable interference was found on both modules described previously. In which case, engineers have to check the firmware version of POL(Pol2) which is 1.18 or later (FW package: v1.22 or later).

1. Overview
There were reports with requests from customers regarding additional clarification of the Installation Guides for Sub 1.5m Antennas. This document provides additional installation information to define acceptable vessel vibration, recommendations for antenna mounting posts including height limitations, and RF interference avoidance.

2. Vessel Vibration
   2.1 Acceptable vibration range

1. The below chart lists the recommended vibration range (IEC-60945) in which the antenna can remain operational with no performance degradation. 
• Intellian desgined the antennas based on the standard of IEC-60945 vibration spec as below. 

2. Intellian recommends the measuring point at the top of the mast shown in the right illustration.
• In the case that the measurement is required, please contact Intellian tech support team. 
3. Vibration levels outside of the acceptable vibration range can cause tracking performance issues and potential mechanical damage to the antenna.
 
3. Recommended Guide for Antenna Mounting Posts
The mounting location and mounting post must be robust enough that it will not flex or sway in ships motion and well re-enforced to prevent flex and vibration forces from being exerted on the antenna and radome.
The mounting post must also be robust enough to withstand the forces exerted by full rated wind load on the radome.
Below are examples of antenna mounting posts.

4. Avoid RF Interference
Because of RF interference, antennas may become unable to transmit/receive data, reducing their throughput, causing delays and performance degradation. The following are recommendations to avoid RF interference when installing antennas.

S-Band Navigational Radars:
• Do not install the antenna near high power shortwave radars. Most radar transmitters emit RF energy within an elevation range of -15° to +15°. It is recommended to position the antenna at least 15 feet(4.6m) away from the radar.
 

Warning: Never place the antenna in the beam path of the radar regardless of distance. The high power shortwave radar may impair its performance or damage the antenna.

X-Band Navigational Radars:
• The ADE should be mounted more than 0.6 meters/2 feet from 2kW (24 km) radars.
• The ADE should be mounted more than 2 meters/8 feet from 10kW (72 km) radars.
• The ADE should be mounted more than 4 meters/12 feet from 160kW (250km) radars.

VHF/UHF/MF/HF Antennas:
• The ADE should be mounted more than 2.5 meters/8 feet from any high power MF/HF antennas (<400W).
• The ADE should be mounted more than 4 meters/12 feet from any high power MF/HF antennas (1000W).
• The ADE should also be mounted more than 4 meters/12 feet from any short-range (VHF/UHF) antennas.

Other Considerations:
• Another consideration for any satellite antenna mounting is multi-path signals (the reflection of the satellite signal off of nearby surfaces arriving out of phase with the direct signal from the satellite) to the antenna. This is mainly a problem for the onboard GPS, and/or the GPS based Satellite Compass.
• The ADE should be mounted more than 2.5 meters/8 feet away from any L-band satellite antenna.
• The ADE should be mounted more than 3 meters/10 feet away from any magnetic compass installations.
• The ADE should be mounted more than 2.5 meters/8 feet away from any GPS receiver antennae.

5. Recommended Limitation of Mounting Height
Intellian recommends following the antenna installation and operational guide, shown in the below chart and table, to ensure full antenna performance and prevention of potential mechanical damage.
Prerequisite 
• The mounting platform should be rigid enough and not subjected to excessive vibration. (Reference: Acceptable vibration range)
• Secured tightly to the structure of the vessel.
 
Mounting Height
• The higher up you mount the antenna above the pivot point of the ship, the higher the tangential acceleration (g-force) exerted on the antenna will be (see chart below).
• When the g-force exerted on the antenna is light, antenna stabilization and overall performance will not be affected.
• If the g-force exerted on the antenna is high enough, antenna stabilization and overall performance will be affected.
• If the g-force exerted on the antenna is excessive, the antenna will not maintain stabilization and may even be physically damaged by the g-force.

1. Introduction

Please be informed that the 4W BUC failure caused by incorrect connection of TX cable on v80G has been reported recently and special cautions are required to prevent such issues.
 
2. Basic System Configuration
The v80G basic system configurations are below. Tx cable connection differs according to the type of BUC.
  • In case of using 8W BUC : Connect TX cable through the ACU.
  • In case of using 4 W BUC : Connect TX cable to the modem directly. red line)
 
 
3. Case of Failure 
The image is the part of back panel of the ACU that is for v80G. Existing “Antenna Tx” port on this back panel makes a engineer confuse to connect Tx cable.
 
 
 

Actually, there is a case that a engineer has connected Tx cable to a modem through an ACU. As a result, the 4W BUC is broken because the allowable voltage is 30W.

 

4. Preventive measures
To prevent above human error, intellian covers rubber cap upon the antenna Tx connector and applies the warning tag below. (ACU: VP-T528)

1. Reason For Notice

It has been reported that some cases are opened as a BUC issue from support on GX models. Please note that GX models have safety action which is Power or TX OFF on BUC when encountering temporary unstable tracking.
 
2. Explanation of the concept of Power/TX OFF on BUC
1) Once GX models encountered unstable tracking issue which comes from driving parts failure (motors, related sensors), vibration or etc, it sent to BDT that unstable condition which is pointing disable.
 

 
2) Then SCM board sent the command TX OFF or POWER OFF to BUC as a safety action. These actions found out on Debug page and log message as below.
 

 
3. Currently Known BUC Failure Case
Except for BUC Overdriven message, nothing is known about this BUC failure so far.

Please follow the procedures in this document when encountered communication issue between devices as below.

1. Check the ethernet cable is connected correctly.
The cable should be connected on LAN port (no.7 or no 8) on the rear of BDT.
 

2. Precaution on Dual Diversity Configuration (temporary measure)
 

Whenever setting dual diversity configuration, click Reboot Only button on Administration -> iARM Save & Reboot to apply dual diversity setting.

1. Reason for Notice

It has been reported that there are issues with existing fiber connectors with a crack of inner ceramic material on the FC/APC fiber connector. SC-APC type Fiber Optic connectors will replace the FC/APC fiber connectors. The SC/APC fiber connectors are quick, easy, and are secure to connect.
The new solution is for improvement of the Intellian product and should not interfere with the existing fiber infrastructure. It is recommended to utilize the SC/APC fiber terminations for new or future installations.
 
2. Overview Fiber Link Product
All fiber connectors on the ADU and BDU have changed from FC/APC to SC/APC as shown below.
 

Intellian introduces the new fiber links with new model name as follow.
  • FO-1V56 from FO-1V50 which used for v240MT Gen-I model.
  • FO-1V67 from FO-1V65 which used for v240MT Gen-II model.
3. Application
3.1 Installed Fiber Links
Since the existing product is not defective and this change is for just improvement, Intellian has decided to use existing connector (FC-APC) on the fiber Link in the field or in the warehouse.
3.2 New Fiber Links
In line with new model name above, these new products have been produced from December 2019.

4. Additional Information
Consideration for new or future installations, the recommended fiber infrastructure should include SC/APC fiber terminations.
Intellian supplies different type of fiber optic cables and FC-APC to FC-APC adaptor in order to install new fiber links without issue.

Supplied Fiber Optic Cables (for single-mode / Intellian standard)
Three different types of Fiber Optic Cables are supplied. There are 2 sets for each side (of the BDU/ADU) supplied to connect to SC-APC type connector of Fiber port of Fiber Link units.
 


Supplied FC-APC to FC-APC Adaptor
If you cannot connect the Fiber Optic Cables directly to the SC-APC connector, connect two FC-APC type Fiber Optic Cables using FC to FC Adaptor.
 

Intellian has started to provide spare parts (ADU and BDU unit) with SC-APC connector type including the cables and adaptor by default. In case of replacing these parts to existing equipment, utilize these cables and adaptor in order to resolve compatibility issues.

REASON FOR NOTICE

This technical bulletin is intended to notify customers that all Intellian products are not affected against GPS rollover issue.

WHAT’S THE GPS ROLLOVER ISSUE?
The Global Positioning System provides accurate timing information to many of our critical systems. It also includes the ability to transmit the proper date and time to a receiver by supplying the receiver with the current week and the current number of seconds into the week. This allows the receiver to translate the date and time into a more typical format – day, month, year, and time of day.
However, the field that contains the week number is a 10-bit binary number. This limits the range of the week number to 0 – 1023, or 1024 total weeks.
GPS week zero started January 6, 1980. The 1024 weeks counter ran out and rolled over on August 21, 1999. The week counter then reset to zero, and it has been recounting ever since. The next time the counter will reach week 1023 and rollover to zero is on April 6, 2019.

NO IMPACT ON INTELLIAN PRODUCTS
The GPS Rollover will not affect any Intellian Products.
Intellian has confirmed with the chipset vendors that they already implemented the solution to their chip which was on all Intellian products and their GPS chip is safe from the rollover.
In addition, Intellian products are using GPS time only for the log storage and there is no impact of GPS Rollover on actual antenna operation.

2. Diagnosis accura c y is enhanced to prevent false positive readings. Threshold have been optimized and changed for diagnostic accuracy.
3. Unintended Bow offset saving has been avoided by reinforced saving condition for Search 1 operation
4. Recovery algorithm is adopted to maintain level of sensor box. It can prevent malfunction of AZ, EL and CL motion.

Bug Fix
1. When backup the antenna parameter, it might be broken intermittently . It has been fixed for accurate data processing of ACU.
2. LO was changed Intemittently during antenna initializing from setup mode. It has been corrected to prevent unintended LO change.

In case that the antenna has trouble getting RX issue without any hardware failure. 
Then please do the procedure of deletion of OTA_BeamMap file as below. 


iDirect CM login: root 
Password: iDirect  or iDirect123!
# cd /common
# ls -al

Remove the old OTC file to perform the OTC. 
# rm OTA_BeamMap.json  (file remove command)
# ls -al  (confirm that the file is removed)
 

Then reboot, it will synchronize to the CONSTELLATION_OPT file on the selected package.

While commissioning, engineer can use spectrum to check if 5G mobile service is impacting the received (RX) Chain for get modem lock. This 5G signal has affected the reception of the broadcast signal of the satellite communication service, and there is no current solution because the 5G signal frequency range is an integral part of the C-band frequency range.

- Test will be done when v240C (C-band Terminal) to mount with Radar filter and WiMax filter to compare.

  2. Marker 2 1450 MHz (IF Freq, RF Freq : 3.7GHz)
  3. Marker 3 1525 MHz (IF Freq, RF Freq : 3.625GHz)
  4. Marker 4 1750 MHz (IF Freq, RF Freq : 3.4GHz)

Example figure shows and explain that within the Radar Filter 5G mobile service distortion whole c-band Spectrum Range, however, when terminal uses WiMax Filter, it can avoided unwanted signal (Rejection) for v240C to track c-band Service.

    2. Input "Center Freq" for RX frequency
    3. to see difference between Radar Filter vs. WiMax fiter.

The replacement of (P/N: VC-4006) Wi-MAX Rejection Filter Kit is available upon customer request, with the understanding that the Rx band frequencies changes from 3.625 – 4.2 GHz to 3.7 – 4.2


3. Commissioning Recommondation

As the reader recognizes, the frequencies that were commonly used for C-band until 3.4 GHz to 3.8 GHz are in use for 5G services in other countries. By using the WiMAX Filter allows for 3.7 GHz to 4.2 GHz RX reception without any distortion. Intellian recommends assigning the VSAT terminal RX frequencies for commissioning between 3.7 GHz to 4.2 GHz. Also, if engineer is suspecting that 5G issue is happening on site for c-band commissioning, please be prepare for spectrum to vertify.

HQTS is pleased to announce the release of the online training for the Intelligent Mediator Gen-II.
The Intelligent Mediator Gen-II enables a smart approach to blockage mitigation of antennas, antenna diversity, and failure reduction. It can provide VSAT antenna mediation up to eight antennas including other brand antennas and RF switching up to eight modems regardless of the frequency bands including GEO C, Ku, Ka-bands, and MEO Ka-band. When the user requires a specified modem with special features, it requires only to select any antenna and link to any modem installed on the ship.

1. Introduction

Intellian requests our technical support team and valued customers to conduct a visual inspection on the damping bolts on the v240 series. It was reported that the damping bolt on the pedestal plate was discovered loose, shown in the figure below. The loosen damping bolt could lead to a significant accident and damage to the v240 series.
  

2. Overview of Damping Bolts (3EA)
 
Check the location of damping bolts (3EA) and verify that damping bolts are correctly tightened, when performing routine maintenance, or field service work for the v240 series.
 
2.1 Inspection and Tightening the bolts
• When finding the loosen bolts, tighten the bolts (3EA) by using an adjustable wrench and a 24mm spanner. 
• Please share the following information with Intellian. Please include the vessel name, antenna serial, and related pictures.

1. Reason for Notice

Recently, the accelerated 5G cellular network rollout has speeded up its installations globally. Intellian provides C-band products such as v240C, v240M, and v240MT, one of our concerns with the reception of the C-band satellite is signal disruptions within the 5G mobile communication service area which is happening in-land areas during the C-Band commissioning process.  

1.1 Global 5G Mobile Service Status (2020YR)
 
2. 5G disruptions during C-band Commissioning
One of our customers has reported that a recent installation of v240C (C-band) was not able to receive the correct C-band frequency due to interference that occurred on-site in Korea. Given the unsatisfactory result of the preliminary diagnosis, during the installation, Intellian decided to conduct a site visit to assess the site environment. 

        
2.1 Root Cause 
The 5G carriers cause co-channel interference with the C-band RX satellite carriers. The co-channel interference degrades the C-band RX satellite reception, causing the loss or poor performance of the C-band RX satellite reception.  

3. Diagnosis Guide 
The issue ONLY occurs when the vessel (VSAT Terminal) is nearby the port where 5G interference interrupts the C-band RX reception. When the vessel leaves the 5G interference area, the system reception improves and returns to normal. 
Installing a WiMAX Filter in front of the LNB input can protect the satellite carriers within its passband and isolate the 5G carriers located out of the passband. Using the WiMAX filter can provide the solution to avoid unwanted signals interfering with the C-band carrier.  
Intellian recommends the implementation of the WiMax filter to our system to reject 5G carriers, and the results prove that this solution provides for a stable commissioning process and VSAT performance.


4. Application
The replacement of (P/N: VC-4006) Wi-MAX Rejection Filter Kit is available upon customer request, with the understanding that the Rx band frequencies changes from 3.625 – 4.2 GHz to 3.7 – 4.2 

4.1 WiMax Filter
 


5. Commissioning recommendation
The 3.5 GHz band, Mid-Band, (3.3 – 3.8 GHz), is a core spectrum band for 5G mobile service deployment globally. Even though this is not a defined frequency range and recognized in the market. There is no one ‘correct’ way to address potential interference issues. Instead, the solution is likely to be dependent on local conditions around the extent and nature of VSAT usage in each country.
 

As the reader recognizes, the frequencies that were commonly used for C-band until 3.4 GHz to 3.8 GHz are in use for 5G services in other countries. By using the WiMAX Filter allows for 3.7 GHz to 4.2 GHz RX reception without any distortion. Intellian recommends assigning the VSAT terminal RX frequencies for commissioning between 3.7 GHz to 4.2 GHz.

6. Related Product Models
Intellian provides different options to customers so that customers can choose depending on installation & commissioning locations to avoid any issue while commissioning near or in a 5G mobile network. Following system model numbers with “Axxx” in the model number, has the applied WiMAX filter on the system. 
 
 
Replacement of the WiMAX filter on the above standard v240C, v240M, and v240MT with Radar Filters are supported using a conversion kit (P/N: VC-4006) upon customer request, with the understanding that the Rx band frequencies changes from 3.625 – 4.2 GHz to 3.7 – 4.2 GHz.
